The Social Care programme at AFOL is directed by the Social Worker, Ángela Viera Rodríguez.

Social intervention refers to the actions carried out by the social worker with the aim of improving the quality of life of cancer patients and their families, optimising the individual’s resources and strengthening the individual’s and the family’s own capacities.

AIMED AT: Cancer patients and/or their families.

HOURS OF ATTENTION: Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.

 

FUNCTIONS

 

1. COUNSELLING, MANAGEMENT, ORIENTATION
Facilitating services, social and family resources in those areas that present difficulties:

  • Specific economic situation
  • Social and labour benefits and rights
  • Housing problems
  • Accommodation due to relocation
  • Organisation and distribution of care within the family
  • Home help service
  • Technical resources
  • Admission to a residence
  • Disability, drug addiction, foreigners,
  • Intermediary in Legal Services (notaries, lawyers)
  • Funeral Service
  • Search for resources (public and private) and their implementation.

 

2. MANAGEMENT OF THE PROVISION OF ORTHOPAEDIC EQUIPMENT

AFOL has, according to the DEMAND, of:

  • Wheelchairs
  • Handrails
  • Bed rails
  • Shower boards
  • Shower stools
  • Toilet lifts
  • Leg lifts
  • Anti-decubitus cushions
  • Chair backs
  • Crutches
  • 4-legged cane
  • Walking frames
  • Bath chairs
  • Anti-decubitus mattresses
  • Wigs

3. . CAMPAIGN ‘DONATE YOUR HAIR, GIVE A SMILE’ IN COLLABORATION WITH THE RUEBER HAIR CENTRE

 

For several years, AFOL has been collecting donated hair, both from children and adults, in order to obtain wigs for our users.

This chain of solidarity begins with all the people who selflessly give us their hair to help people who need a wig. It continues with the collaboration of the Rueber Hair Centre, who, after receiving the hair that arrives at AFOL, donate wigs to the association and are available there for oncohaematological patients.

– Minimum 30 or 35 cm long.

– Unbraided, in a ponytail.

– Dry hair, not damp at the time of cutting.
